Aquarius Bale: "No instinct for self-preservation"*

*Roger Ebert on Bale’s defining role as the psychopathic Bateman in American Psycho

Kit Marlowe, Byron, Norman Mailer, James Dean, Christian Bale. Aquarians on the existential edge, daring life, experimenting with pure, immediate honesty.

Bale is one of the most distinguished actors of our time – enormously dedicated, deeply entwined in the great tradition of the English stage, and at the synapse of contemporary cultural exchange. It’s got to be a strain. Of course, his rant has been blown way out of proportion, but it seems that, just now, we need to hear someone letting himself go, erupting. Part of the increased seismic activity of the moment. But in Aquarius the sense of self is weakest, which is why the Aquarian personality accepts the projections of the masses so readily, accepts idolatry. Fame can further disintegrate the Aquarian ego, that self-quizzing tissue of identifications. Let’s hope that Bale can just chill for a while, and achieve some detachment from his sympathy with the devil.

SAGS LAP IT UP.

Seems like my haphazard ruminations on Sagittarius bring me new subscribers. In my files I find that a Charles Stough wrote in BONG  No. 661 Dec 25, 2004

            "A HEARTFELT CONFESSION."

"I have fabricated horoscopes. It was the 1970s, when computer editing systems were rudimentary (at least ours was at the Dayton (Ohio) Daily News) and syndicates sent stuff by mail. Sometimes we didn't have the horoscope. A few times we published editor's notes saying sorry, no horoscope. But it didn't matter how sorry we were, we got angry phone calls demanding to know what the horoscope would have said. Sometimes we would have the syndicated stuff by then, or sometimes we would read it to the callers from another paper. If memory serves, the angriest callers, the most paralyzed by the lack of guidance from the syndicate, the most frightened to go out of the house without a horoscope, were born under Sagittarius. Draw from that what significance you will."

Or maybe Sagittariuses are most likely to pick up a phone and yell when someone has dropped the ball?

Loved the bit about horoscopes.

Looking forward to the next post!!

P.S. I may be wrong (depending on what we're each talking about re: 'sense of self') but Pisces are the ones who, traditionally, have the weakest grasp on who they are as individuals.

Rob -- Correct. Pisces is traditionally the flakiest. But Aquarius is the 11th sign, and adjacent to Pisces, the last. So fifty percent of all Aquarians will be further addled by at least one planet in Pisces (that's a rule pertaining to all adjacent signs). It might be better to say that Aquarius is, in some sense, the least self-centered of all the signs, more concerned with humanity as a whole, the species, repelled by egotism, questioning identity, experimental rather than stable -- all summarized in being the opposite of the sign Leo, the proud, natural king of the beasts. Technically the sun is said to "rule" in Leo and to be "detrimented" in Aquarius.

I'm glad you're looking forward, but I hope you'll look backward for a while -- because I'm probably not going to be able to post for the next three weeks.
